Welcome in Moraira,

Moraira is a fishing village that is included in the municipality of Teulada. This village became over the years a fashionable seaside resort with a beautiful marina, a fishing harbor and with 2 sandy beaches namely l'Ampolla and El Portet. The rocky beaches and bays Cala L'Andragó, Cala Cap Blanc, Cala Portixol and Cala Lleibeig are ideal for snorkeling. Moraira is undoubtedly a tourist attraction and is known as the Saint-Tropez of the Costa Blanca.

The origin of Moraira is quite recent, because the village was founded in 1386, after the recon
quest of the Christians on the Moors although the name "Moraira" is most likely derived from during the Moorish occupation. The village owes its traditions and customs to the Mediterranean population under the authority of Jauma I in the 13th century. In 1410 San Vicente Ferrer, the first famous tourist, crossed the village and later he was baptized into Moraira's saint.
During the 15th-16th and 17th centuries, the seaside resort was plagued by attacks of the Berber pirates. These attacks also caused the creation of the current architectural heritage of Moraira. Such as the guard tower of Cap d'Or, the Church of la Iglesia-Fortaleza de Santa and the castle of Moraira or Castell de Moraira.

In the 19th century, the export of grape juice played an important economic contribution. And to this day, the cultivation of the Roman Moscatel grape, from the Teulada vineyards, still plays an important role in the economy. This grape is the basis for the popular Spanish sweet dessert wine La Mistela.
